Sorry for not reporting on Last Sunday. It’s been busy, busy, busy!
Attendance at Worship last Sunday was 159, and was 156 the week before (8/24).
This week we watched an important message from K.P. Yohannan about the persecution of Christians in India. The church now supports six indigenous missionaries in India through Gospel for Asia, some of whom are in the state of Orissa, India.
Sunday School attendance was 109, with over 68% of worship attenders in a class. On the 24th we had 102 people in Sunday School, representing over 65%.
Our redesigned website will be going live soon.
The Long Range Planning Team met twice last week. First with a construction management company and then with an Architectural Firm. Both companies
The next Board Meeting is September 18 at 7pm.
We’re continuing our sermon series, “Encountering the Christ.” We’ve had some obstacles with our office network that slowed our task of putting the sermons online. We have three to upload soon.
The Annual Church Camp Board Meeting is 7pm September 16, at the Camp. Thank you to all who went to mow at the camp on August 30. God bless you!
The Missions meeting is this Saturday morning at 8am. All are invited.
Please note that the Daily Bread devotional booklets are placed at the entrances of the church each quarter. We forget to announce it sometimes, but they’re almost always there and we encourage you to take one with you.
The offices were closed for Labor Day. As always you can reach both ministers around the clock via their cell phones.
Last week we had two meetings with two different architectural/construction companies, to discuss their potential involvement in our long range plans.
On my personal blog I posted an article about my own view of the meetings. Since this is my opinion on a decision the church hasn’t made yet, I felt it was more appropriate to put it there instead of here.
Please be praying for the Long Range Planning team and the Elders as they discuss matters affecting our congregation in coming years.
We had a church camp board meeting last night at a church in Nortonville, Ks. The following activities are officially on the calendar in coming months.
Nov. 7-8, 2008 Men’s Retreat. Beginning with a 6pm Friday dinner and continuing through midday Saturday, we’ll have 18 hours of worship, teaching, fellowship, and fun. Jared Altic is the dean.
Jan. 17-19, 2009 Mid-Winter Retreat. A weekend (Saturday through Monday) retreat for teens, 7th - 12th grade. Coincides with Martin Luther King Holiday. Barry Watts is the dean; contact Jarod Anderson for more info.
We had 116 people in Sunday School. That’s about 68% of the worship attenders in class; a very good ratio!
Sunday was Promotion Sunday for Sunday School. We recognized the children that were graduating to a new class and recognized our many teachers who have contributed so much to this ministry. God bless all of you! Children go to their new classes starting next week.
Our video projector was damaged on the workday. So we had to make due without on-screen announcements, song lyrics, and video. We did just fine, but it did feel a little funny now that we’re used to having a visual presentation capability. The projector is expected to be repaired or replaced in the next week.
We’re getting close to unveiling our re-designed website.
Thanks to everybody who helped with the workday!
Don’t miss Wednesday Family Night! We had barbecue meatballs last Wednesday and this week it’s enchiladas. Dinner is $3 per person or $10 per family and is available Wednesdays from 6:00-6:45pm. Classes run from 7-8pm.
Our MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) group is now called “M&M’s” (Moms and Mentors). This women’s ministry meets for a Bible Study on Mondays at 11am. There will also be monthly meetings, akin to MOPS meetings but with some differences. Most importantly, the group is now open to moms with older children at home. For more information, please contact Joy M.

We had about 20 volunteers come out for the workday last Saturday (Aug 16th). We changed the bulbs in the sanctuary, fixed the cold air return, spot painted recent patches, painted/repaired the flagpole, cleaned the lights, cleaned restroom floors, fixed the mailbox, and repaired the mailbox. A huge thank you to the Chapmans and Browns for the meal. We got a lot of things done and shared in some great fellowship. Thanks to all that were able to participate. Jim Ruth Deacon
Worship attendance was 152. We still had several families gone on vacation but we were pleased to see a number of guests and visitors with us. We want to encourage those visiting us to feel welcome in our services but not feel obligated to contribute to our offerings. That is a responsibility of our members and regular attenders and our guests are not expected to give monetarily while worshipping with us.
Sunday School attendance was 91, just shy of 60% of our worship attendance.
Wednesday Family Night begins this week. The meal is from 6:00 until about 6:45pm. The classes run from 7:00 until 8:00pm.
The Worship Team will meet during the 7:00 hour during WFN. This is intended to be a time of practice and practical instruction in how the worship team and its technicians function. This worship “lab” will be led by Jarod Anderson.
The Jr. High/High School class on Wednesday nights will begin a book-study on leadership in room 202 at 7pm Wednesdays. The Youth Group’s regular meetings will continue to be Thursdays at 7:00 to 8:30pm, led by Jarod Anderson. In addition to various activities and games, they are studying Jesus’ parables. Jr. High/High School Sunday School is also taught by Jarod; they are finishing a study on Hebrews and beginning the book of James.
We began our new sermon series called, “Encountering the Christ.” Our apologies are given to those listening to our podcast. One recording was inadvertently deleted and the other had the opening seconds deleted. Oops! Sorry for the inconvenience.
A church workday is this Saturday. Please come and help out, I hear there’s a great lunch planned!
The Youth Group will be going to the Big Dig on Friday and Saturday of this week. This is a youth event centering on apologetics (giving answers for the faith) presented by Focus on the Family. Click here for more information or call Jarod Anderson.
We had a wonderful turnout (110+) for the Fall Kickoff last Wednesday evening. We enjoyed favorably cool weather as the rain missed us. But the large number of kids were wet anyway as they splashed in the water; it was fantastic fun!
Worship attendance was 142. We had several families gone on vacation or out of town but it’s a nice encouragement to see everyone who was there. It’s also an encouragement when 142 is a low Sunday!
Sunday School was down a bit with only 84 in attendance. That was only 59% of worshipers attending a class, somewhat less than our usual high percentage. It’s important that we encourage everyone to be plugged in to various small groups, of which Sunday School classes are the most regular and easily accessible.
A new, special sermon series begins next week. Encountering the Christ examines 21 encounters of people in the Gospels with Jesus Christ. We’re praying for this sermon series to have a powerful impact on people’s lives, just as the original encounters had dramatic repercussions. Please invite people to come and hear or listen online.
Don’t forget, this Wednesday is the Kickoff for our Wednesday Family Night. We’ll have a cookout, with an evening of fellowship and fun for everyone. We’ll have a water slide and “bounce house” for the kids along with face painting and balloon animals. Hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, drinks and table service provided––you bring the rest!
Don’t forget that this Wednesday is also our day to collect canned goods and non-perishable foods for God’s Storehouse’s new food pantry. Please bring a bag of canned food to the Kickoff on Wednesday.
You will never have an encounter as important and life-changing as when you meet Jesus Christ. The Gospels record dozens of these events, when people from all walks of life met Jesus of Nazareth. Starting next week we will look at 21 of these unique, life-changing encounters, beginning with his disciples.
